Introduction
Product
innovation is chiefly driven by the desire to produce steels with tailor
made microstructure and properties suited to diverse applications.
Significant progress has been made in understanding the influence of
alloying elements, hot deformation of austenite and its controlled
decomposition during cooling, cold rolling and annealing to generate a
wide array of microstructures and mechanical properties in hot and cold
rolled products. These developments are aimed at meeting ever increasing
demands for steel with higher performance and reliability in service.
Physical simulation coupled with mathematical modeling and other
advanced techniques have proved to be techno-economically attractive in
improving metallurgical processes, leading to enhancement in quality of
contemporary products and development of new products.
The
first international conference on Thermo-mechanical Simulation and
Processing of Steels was held in 2004 at
R & D Centre for Iron & Steel,
SAIL, Ranchi. In this
series, second conference
(SimPro’08) will be another step forward to focus on recent advances in
thermo-mechanical processing, emphasizing various simulation techniques
and their applications. It will provide an opportunity to scientists and
technologists from research/ academic institutes, and manufacturers to
share their experience and find new directions in producing high value
products.
The
conference will focus on:
-
Phase transformation
-
Recrystallization and grain growth
-
Mathematical modeling of metallurgical processes and
microstructure
-
Simulation of
continuous casting, hot rolling, forging, heat-treatment, strip
annealing, and welding
-
Advances in thermo-mechanical processing of steels
-
Structure-properly correlation
-
Emerging steel products and applications
